- Memorabilia appeal for 50th anniversary of 'new' building
KIRKCALDY High School is looking for the help of pupils past and present to help celebrate a special birthday.
This year the school building, situated on Dunnikier Way, is 50 years old and a range of different events are being planned to help make the anniversary a very special one!
But to help ensure the plans are as successful as possible, ex-pupils young and old are being asked to contribute their memories, old photographs or memorabilia for the trip down memory lane.
The celebration will be spread over four days from Thursday, September 11, until Sunday, September 14, and will include a range of different activities and events from golf games, open days and an exhibition to a evening of music and entertainment.
It's also hoped to involve pupils from the past as well as the present as much as possible in the celebrations.
The four-day bumper school reunion begins on Thursday, September 11, with a Texas Scramble golf competition at Kirkcaldy Golf Club with open days at KHS also on the same day and Friday, September 12.
There will be tours of the building both days for people to have a look around the school and it's hoped an event on Friday evening will be the highlight of the week when a night of music and entertainment from current and former pupils is planned.
On Saturday, it's hoped people will have their own events with friends and colleagues from the past with a commemoration and thanksgiving for the last 50 years held as part of the 11 a.m. service at St Bryce Kirk.
Judith Kerr, one of the depute rectors of KHS and herself a former pupil, told The Press displays will be put all around the school, including one with memorabilia from 1958.
She said: "For the displays we'd like anything that will remind people of their time at school. We're even looking for memorabilia like old gym slips, things like that.
''We also want to involve people from all eras from older ex-pupils to people who have just left school. My family all went to KHS and I know there will be other families locally that are the same."
When the school building was first opened in 1958 the Queen paid a visit to have a look at the new site, and Her Majesty is not the only high profile person to have a connection or involvement with KHS.
But when it comes to this year's events every pupil past or present is important. Anyone with ideas on how to celebrate the anniversary, as well as photos, memories, memorabilia or offers of sponsorship should contact (01592) 598809 or Judith Kerr at KHS on (01592) 583405.
