  • Officers cordon off house in Overton Mains
A KIRKCALDY pensioner has been found dead in her own home.
The body of Isabella Hooper who stayed at 258 Overton Mains, was found in the house around 9.30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Police confirmed they had launched a murder hunt.

At the time of going to press, Fife Police revealed a 64-year-old man had been charged in connection with the incident, and he was expected to appear from custody at Kirkcaldy Sheriff court today (Thursday).

The shocking events left people in the quiet residential street reeling.

The woman's death and the police activity rocked the whole Overton Mains community as residents came to terms with the horrendous and disturbing news.

Both locals and councillors were quick to admit they couldn't quite believe what had happened when they spoke to The Press.

And as residents of the cosy cul-de-sac where Isabella Hooper lived dealt with the news yesterday, police began their investigation into her death.

Officers cordoned off the street as they gathered evidence.

A special incident team was also set up in the street and in the back garden of the house mid-afternoon on Wednesday as the drama unfolded.

Passers-by and dog walkers alike looked on in disbelief yesterday afternoon as they watched the team of officers in the street work from behind the blue police tape.

Many spoke of their shock at what had happened on their doorsteps and how they were struggling to accept the news of the murder.

One dog walker who lives nearby told The Press it was particularly disturbing as he had known Isabella 'for years'.

"I couldn't believe the news when I heard it - I knew her, she was a lovely woman, very nice.

''It's hard to take it in."

Another passer-by admitted: "My girlfriend was nearby last night and she saw the police going into the street.

''I just can't believe this has happened in a quiet area like Overton Mains.

''You expect it to happen in other places but not here. "

That was a thought echoed by another long-term Overton Mains resident who said: "I'm shocked that this has happened here."

Local councillors also added their messages of sympathy and condolence and Councillor Lawrence Brown said: "I was shocked to hear the news.
It's a lovely quiet cul-de-sac."

Councillor George Leslie added: "It really saddened me when I heard about this.

''You don't want to hear of this happening anywhere, but it's especially upsetting when it happens in your ward."

Councillor Kay Carrington said: "This is very, very sad and shocking and my sympathies are with the family at this time.

''It's not something you think could ever happen in your own ward."
